Plans for the second phase development of Luneside East have been submitted for planning approval by Northpoint Developments.  The scheme follows on from Persimmon Homes recently gaining consent for 170 residential units on the western portion of the site.  The project will involve the demolition of the existing mill building that occupies the site and the development of a 419 bed student accommodation scheme split between four building blocks.  RoC Consulting were engaged by the developer to provide supporting information for the planning submission on ground conditions, flood risk and drainage, and to undertake scheme design information for the new building structures.

The development of the site has been brought forward following a £4 million programme of remediation,  to clean up legacy contamination from a former gas works and other heavy industrial operations.  The remediation of soil contamination and treatment of groundwater was deemed necessary, owing to the extent of pollution that was still present and the site’s proximity to the River Lune.  RoC Consulting was previously engaged as part of these remedial works, acting in a due diligence capacity on behalf of the client and to oversee the works.
