MAG Footbridge, Airport City Manchester

As a pedestrian bridge across the M56 Manchester Airport Spur Road, this landmark structure forms the gateway to Manchester Airport, linking the ‘Airport City North’ business district and the Manchester Airport Enterprise Zone and Regional Transit Zones.

Representing a bold design by 5plus Architects and forming the focal point of the wider £1 billion Airport City enterprise and logistics hub, RoC Consulting was engaged to provide structural and ground engineering design to support the delivery of this £6m bridge.

Spanning over 50m across the busy M56 motorway the project presented a number of technical challenges including balancing the need for a rigid structure with the architectural aspiration for multiple perforations within both structural supports and the bridge deck.
